History of Muay Boran
Muay Boran has roots that trace back several centuries, possibly even over a thousand years. It evolved as a practical form of combat for use on the battlefield, designed for soldiers to defend themselves when they were disarmed. The art was influenced by the need for effective hand-to-hand combat techniques, integrating strikes with fists, elbows, knees, and legs, as well as grappling and throws.
Over time, Muay Boran became more formalized and began to be practiced in structured environments for both self-defense and sport. It was a way to keep soldiers prepared during peacetime and also became a popular form of entertainment. Competitions were often held during festivals and special events, with participants using hemp rope or other bindings on their hands instead of gloves.

Muay Boran holds a significant place in Thai culture. It is not just a martial art but a symbol of national pride and cultural identity.
